Family Medicine Residency

Curriculum and Rotation Schedule

Curriculum

Our Family Medicine Residency program follows a 13-block academic year, structured with alternating inpatient and ambulatory rotations. Residents will also spend a portion of their time throughout their three years in the Family Medicine Residency Clinic providing longitudinal care to their own panel of patients. Residents will rotate through a variety of clinical settings, gaining experience and knowledge from a wide range of specialties and patient presentations.

Saint Alphonsus Medical Center - Nampa

Residents will complete the majority of their inpatient rotations at the Saint Alphonsus Medical Center - Nampa hospital under the guidance of a largely Family Medicine-trained medical staff. Clinical experiences in this hospital will train residents to provide fully-rounded care to their patients through each of the different settings and specialties.

Saint Alphonsus 12th Avenue Family Medicine Clinic - Nampa

This site serves as the Family Medicine Residency Clinic for our residents. Throughout their three years of training, residents will care for their own panel of patients and providing optimal care to their wide range of patients and their presentations. In this clinic, residents will have access to laboratory services, as well as radiology services through the attached stand-alone emergency department, including x-ray, ultrasound, and CT scans.

Saint Alphonsus Medical Center - Baker City

In order to better prepare graduates for independent practice in more rural and underserved locations, residents will spend some time practicing in Baker City, OR in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. On this rotation, residents will be exposed to the responsibilities that come with practicing medicine in a community with limited resources and diverse patient presentations.

Primary Children’s Hospital - Salt Lake City

During the second year of training, residents will complete their inpatient and emergency pediatrics experiences at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT. Rotating through the PICU, NICU, CICU, Neuro-Trauma unit, and emergency department of this Level 1 Pediatric Trauma center, residents will gain the knowledge and competence to diagnose and treat their acutely ill pediatric patients in preparation for independent practice. Residents will also work alongside learners from the University of Utah and other surrounding programs for a robust experience in interprofessional and interdisciplinary patient care.

Terry Reilly Health Services

Resident’s clinical experiences in Behavioral Health and Community Health will take place with Terry Reilly Health Services, a community health center with deep roots in the Treasure Valley. As a community health center and Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Terry Reilly clinics serve Southwest Idaho with locations in  Ada, Canyon, and Owyhee counties. They believe in a healthcare system that ensures care for the whole person, which is why Terry Reilly operates clinics with integrated services.
